Order Out Of Chaos

Happy Friday,

Another book recommendation this week…

‘Order out of Chaos’ by Scott Walker is a great read that I’d highly recommend - I’ve read it once and am already dipping into it again.

Walker shares his personal experience as a highly experienced kidnap for ransom negotiator and provides tools to help us communicate effectively, particularly in times of crisis, change and uncertainty. Whether we realise it or not we all negotiate every single day both in our work and in our everyday lives.

He weaves his incredible experiences of his work around the world, cleverly into the book to bring to life the methods of the techniques and tools he encourages us to consider and apply. The book is well structured with great chapter summaries and key take away sections to help the reader cement their learning.

I particularly like the focus on the science and practical psychology behind our thoughts, feelings, habits and actions when we face crisis, change and uncertainty and what we can do to best help ourselves and others in challenging situations. There is also an excellent section on active listening skills and how this skill is so crucial in negotiation.

I hope you enjoy this read if you decide to buy a copy, I’d love to hear what you think of it.
