Book Review - Careless People

I wanted to share a book recommendation today, thank you Maxine Cameron for giving me this book which I couldn’t put down.

Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Willams (former director of Global Public Policy for Facebook - Meta) educates us on how power and influence can disrupt and corrupt good intentions.

I took the following from this brilliant book....

Companies may well have goals and ambitions which align to their core values and culture about how they want to serve others; but to what extent do they stick to their principles, culture and values when growth, influence and profit sky rockets rapidly.

Rapid growth can override responsibility and ethics - everyone needs accountability regardless of where they sit in the business – strong challenge and ethical oversight is required at every level.

Have the courage to speak up when you see something is wrong which goes against your values and the companies values.

♥️Culture is paramount to ensuring companies don’t lose their ethical responsibilities to their clients and the individuals they employ

As a business owner and crucially as a parent navigating the world of technology, social media and AI, this really brought the risks as well as the opportunites to the fore. It also helped me to reflect on moments in my career where the balance between my work and life was out of control, the impact it had and what I learnt as a result. I highly recommend reading Careless People.
