Fear and Fun

Happy Friday! Todays blog is about fear and also fun. We spent last week celebrating the twins 7th birthday at Go Ape as well as Alton Towers. 3 days filled with adrenalin, fear and a lot of fun. I absolutely love roller coasters so Alton Towers was perfect for me. Go Ape - not so! I have developed a fear of falling over the years and Go Ape for me was a real test. The children were fearless unlike myself; however I managed to face my fear and did all 4 tree top challenges with crash landings on the zip wires each time! The experience prompted me to tap into the great learns I took from a book which I love, Susan Jeffers - 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway'. The essence of ‘Feel the Fear’ is to help you get comfortable with ‘fear’ as it presents itself when you are about to embark on change or are trying something new that takes you out of your comfort zone. Susan helps to re-frame the fear into opportunity and gives you the confidence to trust in your ability to handle the ‘unknowns’ that change and new experiences can inevitably present. The affirmation ‘Whatever happens I’ll handle it’ is one I use every single day. This book is a must read for anyone who is considering a change, going through change or wanting to try something new in both a professional and personal sense. Despite feeling scared on various obstacles at Go Ape we all had so much fun and I think my family were secretly proud of me despite being highly amused at the same time!
