Happy Friday!
Here is an after and before post full of learns, lots of mistakes, some successes and most importantly growth on all fronts!
I acquired an allotment in February. Here are some results five months on, along with a whole lot of learning.
I knew nothing about allotments, soil, planting, seeding, preparing the ground, the impact of weather - I really mean nothing!
Here's what happened.... I read a book, watched some videos, learnt from my running coach who suggested this all in the first place, learnt from allotment holders, asked a ton of questions, listened, tried news things, brought a strimmer/brush cutter, tools, a manual mower and lots of seeds!
Five months later, I have potatoes, courgettes, cucumbers, lettuce, squashes, peas, leeks, apples and carrots growing. Some are doing really well, some not so well, some taste lovely, some taste awful!
Here's what I have gained along the way.....
🍑Knowledge
🫛New connections
🍎Experience
🥔Patience
🥕Learning
🍓Appreciation for nature in a whole new light
🌳Fun
🐝Fitness
Resilience
💪Determination
Definitely a real highlight of 2026 so far! It's amazing what happens when you say YES to new opportunities and step totally out your comfort zone. I am aiming for an allotment pitch prize in 2027! 😆
Have a super weekend and here's to a World Cup third place.
