Circle of Control

Happy Friday!

My daughter has gone on her first school skiing trip this morning for the next week - I feel excitement, anticipation and a little bit of fear all at once. It will be the longest time she’s been away from us but I'm also full of gratitude that she has the opportunity for this experience.

The fear is perhaps not helped by viewing the Winter Olympics this week and watching some crashes and falls. It got me thinking about the circle of concern and control, which I use so much in my work with clients.

I won’t be with her to remind her to take it easy, balance her competitive streak! and just to simply focus on having fun and enjoying it. I can however use my circle of control to think about her enjoying the experience, knowing that she has great friends, teachers and instructors around her to ensure she has fun and stays safe and to also focus on us enjoying time with the twins and our friends next week.

Have a great weekend ahead and remember the power of focusing on what you can control as opposed to what you cannot also aligned to that ‘pink elephant ’ I always refer too!
